Charges Expected In Connection With Fatal Oklahoma Boat Accident

by Colbert Cooper Hill Attorneys

Boaters in Oklahoma have a responsibility to safely operate their watercraft at all times. But too often, failure to adhere to this rule results in devastating accidents and serious injuries. The Oklahoma Boat Accident Attorneys with J. Colbert Injury Lawyers say charges are expected to be filed in connection with a boating accident that occurred last summer on the waters of Lake Eufaula.

According to a story from McAlester News-Capital, the incident occurred on July 4, 2013, when the 20-year-old operator of a ski boat plowed into an anchored pontoon boat. The impact caused a 55-year-old victim to suffer blunt force trauma to his body, serious cuts to his head, fractured ribs and vertebrae, and a severed spinal cord. Officials determined he died as a result of his injuries. The deceased victim’s two young daughters were also seriously injured in the accident.

Th district attorney said autopsy findings will be used to determine if the man responsible for the accident will face homicide charges. Investigators are also working to determine if DUI charges should be filed as well, considering Troopers believe alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash.

The Oklahoma Personal Injury Lawyers with J. Colbert Injury Lawyers recognize how difficult the loss of a loved one to an accident can be, and the firm hopes a decision in the case will bring the family a sense of closure.
