Collision Shows Need For Boats To Be Properly Insured

by Colbert Cooper Hill Attorneys

There are thousands of Oklahoma citizens who own both cars and boats. While most of these individuals will acknowledge the need for all cars or trucks on the road to be properly insured, many fail to recognize that boats also need insurance.

One family has learned this lesson the hard way after a serious Oklahoma Boat Accident they were involved in this past summer. Reports indicate the incident occurred on the waters of Lake Eufaula this past July 4th.

An article from Oklahoma’s 6 News stated the family’s watercraft was struck by another boater’s vessel, causing the death of one man and leaving two young girls seriously injured. The man responsible for causing the accident fled the scene, but later turned himself in to police.

He is currently facing no charges and is facing no financial liability either. This is because the state does not require boats to carry insurance. At the time of the accident, the responsible party’s vessel was uninsured and the watercraft of the family that was struck only carried liability insurance. This means the family is left to cover all the bills associated with their injuries and loss.

The Oklahoma Personal Injury Lawyers with J. Colbert Injury Lawyers explain accidents like this show the need for all boaters to have their watercraft properly insured before taking to lakes or rivers this spring and summer.
