Known as the “Dogwood Capital of Oklahoma,” Idabel was founded in 1902, and was named in honor of a railroad official’s two daughters. Today, the city’s several museums shed light on both the culture and history of the region.
Getting outside to camp, hunt, bike, and fish are popular pastimes with locals because of Idabel’s close proximity to the Red Slough Wildlife Management Area, the Little River National Wildlife Refuge, and Beavers Bend State Park.
